KOLKATA: The Calcutta HC ordered Monday that 10 relatives of arrested Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee’s bodyguard Biswambar Mondal must appear before it with affidavits on August 17, following accusations that they were hired as primary school teachers on the basis of “concocted and fabricated” papers.
The HC’s direction to add them in the case followed ED’s arrest of former education minister Chatterjee Saturday on the charge of money laundering linked to a “bribe-for-jobs” scandal in the hiring of teachers and non-teaching staff for schools during his tenure between 2016-2021. The relatives of Chatterjee’s bodyguard came under the scanner after a petitioner in the recruitment scam drew the HC’s attention to the hiring of 10 people from one family in several Purba Midnapore schools.
