SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday busted a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) module by arresting two terrorists and their two associates, including a woman, in Hajin area of Bandipora district.
A police spokesperson said a huge cache of arms and ammunition and materials for preparing IEDs were recovered from the terrorists, identified as Musaib Mir alias Moya of Rakh Hajin and Arafat Farooq Wagey alias Dr Adil of Gulshnabad Hajin.
The cache included an AK-47 rifle, an AK-56 rifle, four AK series magazines, live rounds, RDX, nails, batteries, detonators, remote control and wire.
The terrorists’ associates who were arrested were identified as Imran Majeed Mir alais Jaffar Bhaie of Wangipora Sumbal and Suraya Rashid Wani alias Senty of Wahab Parray Mohalla Hajin. Two hand grenades and other incriminating materials were recovered from them.
According to the police spokesperson, preliminary investigation had revealed the module was being handled by a Lashkar commander from Pakistan. It was tasked with carrying out attacks on civilians and security forces to instill fear among people.
The module was also directed to carry out a powerful IED blast at a crowded public place to cause maximum civilian casualties, the spokesperson said, adding that a major tragedy was averted with the arrests.
ADGP, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar congratulated the forces for busting the module and termed it a big success in demolishing the terror infrastructure in north Kashmir.
