NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday launched a national mission to make India the world’s No. 1 country.
Kejriwal said the ‘Make India No. 1’ mission is an apolitical movement and urged all citizens and political parties to join the drive. “We have to make India No. 1 nation in the world once again. We have to make India great again. I call upon the BJP and all other parties to come forward and join this initiative to make India the best country in the world,” he said.
The AAP leader outlined 5 priorities to achieve the goal:
Providing free education
Kejriwal stressed that every child should get good and free education across the country and everyone should start working collectively for it on a war footing.
There is a need to open government schools on a large scale, improve them, regularise guest teachers and train teachers for children’s future. Then India can become a ‘rich country’, the AAP national convener said.
The AAP leader said that he was ready to work with the Centre if it wishes to improve the healthcare and education facilities in the country.
Free healthcare for all
The AAP leader said healthcare is offered free of cost in many countries and it must be offered free in India too.
“India is a family of 130 crore people and if someone falls sick in the family, it is our responsibility to ensure that they get treated. We cannot leave them on their own. We cannot say that you will only get treatment if you have money,” Kejriwal said.
He also urged the Centre to use the Delhi government’s expertise for improving healthcare facilities across India to make it the number one country in the world.
“We have done it in Delhi. We have improved government hospitals in Delhi. On an average, we are spending Rs 2,000 on every Delhiite’s health and to scale it up for 130 crore Indians we need barely 2.5 lakh crore,” he said.
Employment to youth
Providing employment to youth is the third priority earmarked by Kejriwal.
“Our youth power is our biggest strength. Employment will have to be arranged for each and every youth,” he said.
“I have only one dream – I want to see India as the most powerful country in the world. We want India to become a rich country. India will become rich when every Indian becomes rich. It cannot happen that the country is rich but the people are poor. I want to make every poor of India rich,” Kejriwal said.
Equal rights & dignity to women
Another important aspect that needs to be focussed to make India No. 1 is providing equal rights and dignity to our women. “Every woman in the country should get respect,” Kejriwal said and added, “it is important that women get equal rights.”
Women should have the right to safety and equality, he added.
Fair price to farmers
According to Kejriwal, the fifth priority to achieve the national mission is to ensure that farmers get fair prices for their produce and hard labour.
“Today a farmer’s son does not want to become a farmer. Such a system will have to be made so that farmers get full price for their crop and the son of a farmer must have a sense of pride to become a farmer,” Kejriwal said.
Many countries like Singapore got independence after India but are ahead of us today. Japan and Germany were destroyed in World War II, but have grown by leaps and bounds. “Why is India lagging behind despite Indians being the most intelligent and hard working in the world? Why did India lag behind? Every citizen is asking this,” Kejriwal said.
