BATHINDA : The lone absconding shooter allegedly involved in Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala’s killing in May this year was arrested on Saturday near the Nepal border in West Bengal.
Deepak Mundi was held with accomplices Kapil Pandit and Rajinder. Punjab police chief Gaurav Yadav confirmed the arrests in tweets on Saturday evening. He wrote: “In a joint operation with cen-tral agencies and Delhi, have arrested Deepak Mundi, absconding shooter of Sidhu Moose Wala, with 2 associates. ”
Of the six shooters, only Deepak had dodged the police so far. Priyavrat Fauji, Kashish and Ankit Sersa were arrested earlier. Jagroop Singh Roopa and Manpreet Mannu were shot down in an encounter near Amritsar in July — less than two months after the singer’s May 29 killing.
An official involved inSaturday’s operation told TOI that Deepak, Kapil and Rajinder were trying to sneak into Nepal and travel from there to some other country, but police had clues about them being holed up near the border and had been watching them for the past two days. They are being flown to Delhi from Bagdogra airport, near Siliguri.
In the May 29 killing, the police said Deepak was the shooter in the Bolero module, while Kapil and Rajinder provided “logistical support, including weapons and hideouts”.
