NEW DELHI: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Sunday mocked that the Narendra Modi government’s “cronyism” had gone international. His taunt in the form of a tweet came after a purported video surfaced showing chairman of Sri Lanka’s Ceylon Electricity Board MMC Ferdinando alleging favouritism by the Indian government in the allotment of a power project in their country.
According to the video said to be featuring Ferdinando, Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa told him that PM Modi had put pressure on him that a mega power project in the country be awarded to industrialist Gautam Adani. Significantly, according to reports, Ferdinando soon withdrew his statement saying that he had become emotional. Rajapaksa and his office dismissed the charge “categorically” and “vehemently”.
