NEW DELHI: Parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi on Tuesday alleged that opposition leaders Jairam Ramesh and Gaurav Gogoi peddled lies at a press conference as the decision to adjourn the Parliament earlier than scheduled was taken as per the request of MPs including those from the opposition.
On the opposition’s allegation that fewer number of Bills were passed in the monsoon session and many have been rushed through, Joshi said, “They themselves are confused just like their leader Mr. Fake Gandhi.”
“The monsoon session was not adjourned four days in advance, as is being claimed, but only two days ahead of schedule. This decision was taken on the request of MPs including those from Opposition,” the minister said. Five Bills were passed by both Houses of Parliament in the monsoon session. The Lok Sabha passed seven bills and six legislations were introduced in the Lower House. Four bills were passed in Rajya Sabha. The government withdrew the Data Protection Bill, 2019 and has decided to come up with comprehensive legislation.
Joshi said the opposition’s propaganda is disruption and boycott, adding “they could have raised any issue through calling attention, Rule 377, zero hours and question hours, etc, but they walked away during the discussion on price rise which they were demanding since the beginning.”
“More than 50% of the time in the recently concluded session was sacrificed through disruptions. Personal issues of a family relating to the alleged corrupt practices are being made party issues wasting Parliament’s time,” he said.
Joshi said Congress has made a wrong claim that accusation that they did not allow the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022 to be passed. “It was listed for introduction only. Keeping the importance of this Bill in mind, it is being sent to the Standing committee for examination and report. Additionally, The Competition (Amendment) Bill 2022 is also being referred to the Standing Committee by Presiding officers,” he said.
