KOZHIKODE: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor began his four-day Malabar tour Sunday on a resolute note by challenging Kerala PCC’s informal diktat against the tour even as it created some jitters among a section of leaders, with Youth Congress (YC) backing out of a seminar at the last-minute. At the same time, senior Congress leaders tried to set things right by saying that there was no ban on Tharoor.
Tharoor’s engagements in Malabar, around 20 programmes in four days which includes a meeting with IUML supremo Panakkad Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal, had raised concerns among some leaders that he was aiming for a larger role in state politics.
Addressing mediapersons, Tharoor dropped a hint by taking a leaf from the soccer craze sweeping the state by saying that he always preferred to play as a ‘centre-forward’. “The referee has not come to the scene to show the red card. Football teaches us a lesson that politics too needs to be undertaken with sportsman spirit,” he said, when asked about the alleged attempts to sideline him.
