HYDERABAD: Setting the tone of BJP‘s two-day national executive meeting being held here, party president JP Nadda on Saturday accused the opposition of trying to derail the development programmes of his party-led governments at the Centre and in states aimed at making India “resilient and resurgent”. In his inaugural address, he said opposition parties in their zeal to counter PM Narendra Modi have begun opposing the country’s good by going after the government’s measures and schemes aimed at empowering India.
These parties are trying to ensure that government programmes are met with “destruction”, he said, while also expressing concern over violence against BJP workers in West Bengal, Kerala and Kashmir. While BJP has been working to empower the poor, opposition parties are working to empower their own families and are mired in corruption, Nadda said.
Later, while highlighting the key parts of Nadda’s speech, Union minister Smriti Irani said, “The destructive politics of the opposition has been reflected in (Nadda’s) speech. It also reflected how BJP works irrespective of the propaganda based on nothing but misinformation with the intent to create disruption.”
Irani said irrespective of the shenanigans of the opposition, people have consistently voted for Modi as the Prime Minister, which shows that people believe in him and look up to building India as a stronger nation under his leadership. She quoted Nadda as saying that opposition parties, mostly family-oriented and corrupt, have tried to destruct and disrupt policies and programmes of the government dedicated to building India as a resilient nation.
Irani said Nadda hailed Modi for his government’s “pro-poor” initiatives while mentioning schemes such as Jan Dhan Yojana for economic empowerment, Awas Yojana for housing, and schemes to build toilets which have helped women. “The PM and government have taken a pledge to ensure that the schemes reach the last person in the society with Antyodaya as central to the welfare schemes,” she said.
Lauding Modi for his “good governance” of eight years and consistent service of 20 years in public office, Nadda hailed his leadership and noted popular support to him on successive polls, Irani told reporters.
