T20 World Cup 2026 - Bangladesh bat; Pakistan bring back Rubab, Jabeen

Toss Bangladesh chose to bat vs Pakistan

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat against Pakistan in Southampton in the Group 1 fixture of the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup. This is only the second time that these two sides are playing each other in the tournament, with Pakistan winning their previous outing in the 2016 edition by nine wickets.

Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana said that her side was looking to make the most of a good batting wicket and put runs on board. They entered this contest with a win (against Netherlands) and a loss (against Australia). Bangladesh made one change to their side from their defeat to Australia with Shanjida Akter Meghla in for Sultana Khatun.

Pakistan, meanwhile, find themselves in must-win territory after losing to India and South Africa in their two outings so far. They made two changes, bringing back left-arm seamer Tasmia Rubab and middle-order batter Saira Jabeen. They replaced offspinner Rameen Shamim and middle-order batter Natalia Perviaz.

After being outplayed by India in their tournament opener, Pakistan were lacklustre with the bat and in the field against South Africa, with poor calls resulting in run-outs and the dropped catches providing reprieves to the opposition batters. Fatima Sana said that her side would have to show discipline and calm to overcome it.

Pakistan have dominated the rivalry between these two teams with 16 wins in 20 T20Is. Bangladesh’s three of the four wins, however, have come in the last four matches between these two sides.
