USA broke its own U-20 World Record in the mixed 4x400m during the World Athletics U-20 Championships happening in Oregon on Wednesday.
The American quartet, featuring Joshua Shelton, Taylor-Nicole Overton, Jaelen Hunter and Olivia Harris, clocked 3:15.31s to win gold and shave nearly two seconds off the previous mark (3:17.69s), set in 2022.
Czechia took silver (3:18.16s), while Australia clinched bronze (3:18.45), with both teams breaking their national U-20 records in the process.
For the home team, Shelton got off to a strong start (46.22s), but it was Overton who put USA in control with an impressive second leg, clocking 51.70s.
Hunter then maintained the American lead with a 45.57s split, before Harris took the team home with a solid anchor leg (51.81).
“I knew I just had to hold the lead they all gave me and finish strong, because that’s what it’s going take to get the record and win overall,” said Harris after her team’s record-breaking run.
