Shikhar Mohan scored 85 runs for East Zone during the Duleep Trophy Final on Sunday against South Zone at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
His 120-ball essay was the ideal mix of aggression and caution and helped his team pile on 246 runs in just two sessions. He was involved in a 94-run partnership for the fourth wicket with captain Ishan Kishan.
Shikhar plays for Jharkhand and made his Ranji Trophy debut only last season. The 21-year-old impressed in his maiden venture, scoring 613 runs in 12 innings at an average of 55. This included a double ton against Nagaland and a century versus Baroda.
He had impressed at the age-group levels too. He finished the Col. CK Nayudu Trophy 2023-24 with 623 runs at an average of 77.88, following it up with an even better haul of 887 runs in 13 innings.
Shikhar also made it to the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad of Jharkhand, where he managed 391 runs in seven innings.
But his essay on Sunday against a quality South Zone attack has to be the highlight of his nascent career.
