New Zealand batter Mark Chapman has shifted to a casual contract for the 2026-27 season to play in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL), his country’s ​cricket board announced on Tuesday.

He follows Lockie Ferguson, Finn Allen, Adam Milne and Tim Seifert to choose the casual contract that allows them to feature in various franchise leagues while also being available for a national team call-up.

“Chapman remains available for selection for the upcoming India tour of New Zealand alongside the four other casually contracted players, Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne and Tim Seifert,” New Zealand Cricket said.

“I’m thankful to New Zealand Cricket for their support now and throughout my career,” Chapman said.

“The upcoming India series is one all of us players are really excited for, and I’m committed wholeheartedly to performing in that series,” he added.

The decision by Chapman also sees fast bowler Matt Fisher promoted to the list of centrally contracted players.
