NEW DELHI: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday took a swipe at the Group of Seven (G7), contrasting its economic contribution with that of Brics and saying the latter now accounts for more than 40% of global GDP.Speaking at the Brics Business Forum, Putin said the changing global economic order was reflected in figures from the past five years.“The world is always changing, and this is attested to by the objective facts of the last five years,” Putin said.He said Brics countries had produced more than 40% of the world’s GDP over the period, while the G7’s contribution stood at 29%.“Over the last five years, more than 40% of the world GDP has been produced by the Brics countries, whereas the contribution of the so-called G7, the Group of Seven, I don’t know why they call that the Group of Seven, stands at only 29%,” Putin said.The G7 economies include Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.Putin, who landed in Delhi early in the morning, also held bilateral talks with PM Modi.
