Vedaant Madhavan’s Asian Games debut began with disappointment as India failed to qualify for the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay final at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre on Monday.
The 21-year-old, son of actor R Madhavan, combined with Sajan Prakash, Dhakshan Shashikumar and Aneesh Sunil as India clocked 7:24.32 in the heats. The quartet finished ninth among 13 teams. Only the top eight advance to the final.
Madhavan, however, has two individual events remaining at his maiden Asian Games.
He is scheduled to compete in the men’s 200m freestyle on September 23 before returning for the 200m backstroke on September 25.
