In the 52nd IPL match, the Lucknow Super Giants defeated the Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 9 runs.
The match was held at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
After winning the toss, Bengaluru chose to bowl first and invited Lucknow to bat.
Opening the innings, Lucknow batted steadily and piled up runs. Opener Mitchell Marsh scored a brilliant 111 runs off 56 balls.
Due to rain interruption, the match was reduced to 19 overs. At the end of 19 overs, Lucknow had scored 209 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
As a result, under the DLS method, Bengaluru was given a revised target of 213 runs.
Chasing the target, Bengaluru suffered early setbacks by losing wickets in quick succession. Virat Kohli was dismissed for a duck, while Jacob Bethell got out for just 4 runs, shocking the fans.
However, Bengaluru’s scoring picked up due to an aggressive innings from Rajat Patidar. He scored 61 runs before getting out, while the other batters also played attacking shots.
At the end of 19 overs, Bengaluru managed only 203 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Since they failed to reach the DLS target, Lucknow secured a 9-run victory.
Mitchell Marsh, who scored 111 runs for Lucknow, was awarded the Player of the Match.
