AFG vs BAN 2026/27, AFG vs BAN Only Test Match Report, October 09 - 13, 2026

Lunch: Bangladesh 346 and 44 for 2 lead Afghanistan 240 (Rahmat 105*, Malik 62, Mahmud 5-55, Ebadot 4-56) by 150 runs

Bangladesh extended their lead to 150 after bowling out Afghanistan for 240 on the third day in Abu Dhabi. At lunch, Bangladesh were 44 for 2, having made 346 in their first innings. Hasan Mahmud’s fourth five-wicket haul in Tests, which included a hat-trick, forced Afghanistan into a corner.

Afghanistan rallied briefly with two wickets in Bangladesh’s second innings. Mominul Haque fell at the stroke of lunch, when he edged Yamin Ahmadzai to first slip, where Sediqullah Atal took a superb catch. Tanzid Hasan got Bangladesh off to another sound start, hammering Ahmadzai for three fours in a row in a 17-run over. Ahmadzai also dropped a sharp chance off his own bowling, when Tanzid was on 18, before Saleem had Shadman Islam caught in the deep square-leg boundary in the following over.

Mahmud and Ebadot Hossain combined to take nine Afghanistan wickets. Ebadot had figures of 4 for 56, having started the morning with Ikram Alikhil’s wicket. It broke the 80-run fifth wicket stand, after which Mahmud opened the floodgates from the other end.

Afghanistan had come into the third morning with hopes of gaining a lead. It was largely due to a strong stand between Rahmat and his deputy Ikram Alikhil, after they slipped to 139 for 4 on the second afternoon. Rahmat, however, was stranded at the non-striker’s end as Ebadot and Mahmud blew through the Afghanistan lower order.

Ebadot bowled Alikhil with a wonderfully delivery, before Mahmud made history in the next over. Mahmud got one to jag back into Ismat Alam’s stumps with the ball keeping a little low. Next ball, he got one to move away from Qais Ahmed, who edged to wicketkeeper Litton Das.

For the hat-trick, Mahmud reserved a special one for Zia-ur-Rehman. He missed the ball as it floated in, before leaving his forward prod, hitting him on the back pad. As soon as the TV umpire judged it with three reds, the Bangladesh team erupted in joy. He became only the third Bangladesh bowler after Alok Kapali (2003) and Sohag Gazi (2013) to take a Test hat-trick.

Mahmud made Yamin Ahmadzai his fifth victim of the match, and 50th Test wicket. He is now the quickest among Bangladesh pacers to reach the milestone, beating Taskin Ahmed (18 Tests).

There was just enough time for Rahmat to reach his century, when he cracked Mahmud for a six and two fours to race from 91 to 105, his fourth Test ton. Next over, Ebadot removed Mohammad Saleem to give Litton his fifth dismissal. He became Bangladesh’s second wicketkeeper to reach the feat after Mushfiqur Rahim.
