Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz put Bangladesh firmly in the driving seat with Pakistan losing four wickets in the first session on the second day of the second Test in Sylhet. Pakistan went to lunch on 96 for 4, still 182 behind, with both bowlers having taken two wickets each.

Babar Azam, returning to the playing XI after missing the Dhaka Test with an injury, was unbeaten on 37 at the break, while Salman Agha unbeaten on six.

Taskin struck on the second over of the morning session when Abdullah Fazal edged a delivery that left him late outside off, and Litton Das snapped up the catch diving to his left.

Shoriful Islam, playing his first Test in almost 18 months, softened up Azan Awais by beating the bat many times, and Taskin cashed in, having him caught at short midwicket off an inside edge.

Pakistan had somewhat recovered for the next 45 minutes before Mehidy removed captain Shan Masood in his first over – Masood struck a back-foot punch straight to Nayeem Hasan, the substitute fielder, at cover after making21.

Mehidy struck again when he got Saud Shakeel top-edging a sweep, easily caught by keeper Litton. Shakeel only made eight runs, to follow up his duck and 15 in Dhaka.

Pakistan had ended the first day on 21 for no loss after Bangladesh were bowled out for 278. Litton played a lone hand with his 126, his third century against Pakistan and sixth overall. His was a rescue act after the home side had slipped to 116 for 6 an hour after lunch. Litton added 162 runs for the seventh, eighth and ninth wickets with Taijul Islam, Taskin and Shoriful to give the bowlers something to play with.

To their credit, the lower-order batters played 87 balls between them to support Litton, who struck 16 fours and two sixes. Khurram Shahzad took four wickets while Mohammad Abbas picked up three wickets.
