F1 Monaco Grand Prix 2026: Antonelli extends winning-run to five races, Leclerc crashes out in action packed race

Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli led from start to finish to win the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix and extend his lead at the top of the driver’s championship to 56 points.

It was an action-packed Monaco Grand Prix filled with multiple incidents, a deviation from how recent races at this circuit have panned out.

Drama unfolded right on lap 1 when Red Bull’s Max Verstappen failed to get off the line when the lights out, tumbling down the order all the way to last place from second on the grid. Verstappen subsequently retired in the end of lap one due to power unit related issues.

Sixty-six laps later, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who qualified fourth on the grid, crashed at the swimming pool section on the start finish straight at the Safety Car restart as a result of Lance Stroll’s crash at the same corner.

The crash brought a heartbreaking end to what has been a tricky weekend for the Monasgaque.

The race also had its fair share of five second-penalties for various offences, and as many as six drivers were forced to retire from the race, including defending champion Lando Norris.

And it didn’t stop there. At the restart after the red flag caused by Leclerc’s crash, Antonelli’s teammate George Russell was involved in an incident with Pierre Gasly which forced him to serve a drive through penalty and drop out of the points.

But ahead of all the chaos unfolding behind him, Antonelli kept his cool and executed a near-perfect race to romp home for his fifth consecutive victory of the season.
