Bengal man gets 20-yr RI for child porn, rape | India News

KOLKATA: A 24-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a Pocso case involving child pornography and sexual assault by a district court in Mekhliganj, Cooch Behar, on Friday, reports Satavisha Das. This was one of the first cases of conviction in a cybercrime case in north Bengal and possibly the first case of conviction under section 67B of the Information Technology Act, said special public prosecutor Bibhas Chatterjee.
In 2019, Bijoy Roy, a close friend of the victim – then aged 16 – allegedly spiked her drink one day and took nude photographs of her when she passed out. He blackmailed her using the pictures for two years. The girl was forced to have sex with Roy, pay him the money she would receive under the government’s Kanyashree Scheme, and even cough up her income from imparting private tuition.
The girl finally approached police in 2021 when Roy shared the obscene photos with her fiance days before their wedding, besides circulating the same to her friends and relatives. After the wedding was called off because of this, she attempted suicide in November 2022.
