SURAT: Without naming any opposition party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cautioned people on Saturday against an “anti-Gujarat gang” relentlessly spreading falsehoods and defaming the state and its people by using foul language.
“Beware. Now that elections are here, a gang trying to malign Gujarat’s image in the world by spreading canards is working overtime now. Their choice of words for Gujarat is unacceptable,” Modi said at an election rally in Valsad.
Modi said Gujaratis have never harmed anyone and, instead, have mingled everywhere just like sugar mixes with milk. “Gujaratis have also embraced all who came to the state. You need to tell such elements to stop creating an atmosphere of hate and spreading lies about Gujarat,” he said.
“Gujaratis are tirelessly working for the development of the state. But these elements want to put Gujarat in reverse gear. They cannot be accepted at any cost,” he said.
PM Modi exhorted people to spread this word in every home.
He requested all in the audience to flash their mobile torches and said, “In earlier Congress rule, 1 GB of data used to cost Rs 300. In the Modi government, it now costs just Rs 10. Had Congress remained in power, your monthly data usage bill would have been Rs 4,000-Rs 5,000 instead of Rs 250-Rs 300 today. Isn’t this a huge saving?”
Exuding confidence that BJP would win a grand victory in the state, Modi said people have resolved to shatter “Narendra’s records (of seats) and help create a new record for Bhupendra (Patel)”.
Modi said several people were asking him why he was working so hard despite all surveys predicting a landslide for BJP in Gujarat. “I told them that in a democracy it is my duty as a citizen to give an account of my work and seek votes. I’m only performing my duty,” said the PM.
Modi reiterated that this election was being fought by the people of Gujarat, and not by BJP or CM Bhupendra Patel. “Similarly, it is your duty to ensure maximum voting,” he said, exhorting first-time voters. “It’s the power of your one vote that India today has gained immense global respect and is progressing rapidly. Your vote for BJP will ensure that India blossoms like a lotus,” he said.
