NEW DELHI: Conscious of possible repercussions of 27 years of incumbency, BJP is leaving no stone unturned to continue its winning streak in Gujarat, the home state of PM Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah who have been sprearheading the campaign.
Besides other senior functionaries, the party has got prominent faces from across the country to reach out to the voters. Tuesday will be another day when the party will go for a carpet bombing, deploying its leaders in 93 assembly constituencies, most of which the party lost in 2017 while winning some with narrow margin. Shah, party chief JP Nadda and several Union ministers and office-bearers will address rallies across the state, whereas other functionaries from different states will go for door-to-door campaign, followed by a three-night stay in each seat.
The party had organised a similar exercise in 89 assembly constituencies in 2017, which it had won comfortably, but now it wants to ensure that it didn’t suffer due to anti-incumbency or a sense of fatigue against individual legislators.
Himachal CM Jairam Thakur, his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal, Gajendra Singh, Ajay Bhatt, Mansukh Mandaviya, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel and Lok Sabha MPs like Manoj Tiwari and Ravi Kishan, will take part in various activities on Tuesday.
Party functionaries like Vinod Sonkar, Sunita Duggal, Ramapati Ram Tripathi, Prakash Javadekar, Ashish Selar, Mahendra Singh, Kavita Patidar, Baby Rani Maurya, Vivek Thakur, JPS Rathore, Kirori Meena, Satpal Maharaj, RK Singh Khera, Rao Inderjit Singh, Poonam Mahajan, Jitendra Singh, Diya Kumari, Gulab Chand Kataria, Santosh Kumar Gangwar are a few of the leaders who will be on a three-night “pravas” in the 93 seats where the party is trying to put extra legwork to improve on its 2017 tally.
“The party has deployed leaders to reach out to the voters to showcase how the double-engine governments have worked for the state and country in the past eight years,” said a BJP functionary.
