EC censures BJP’s Dilip Ghosh, Congress’s Supriya Shrinate for derogatory remarks against women’s dignity | India News

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India on Monday, censured BJP MP Dilip Ghosh and Congress leader Supriya Shrinate for making derogatory remarks against women.
EC said it is convinced they made low-level personal attacks and thus violated the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct(MCC). They have been warned to remain careful in public utterances during the MCC period.
The Election Commission will now closely monitor the communication activities of political parties starting today.
A copy of the warning notice or censure is also being sent to their respective party leaders to remind their members to exercise caution when communicating publicly and to avoid making derogatory comments or violating model code guidelines.
Recently, there was a controversy over remarks made on social media by Shrinate about Bollywood actor and BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.
Shrinate removed the controversial remarks from all her social accounts and denied making those comments, attributing them to someone else accessing her accounts.
Similarly, Ghosh faced backlash for mocking Mamata Banerjee’s family background on a video. He later apologised for his statements.
