BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday said that episodes from the Bhagavad Gita, Ramcharitmanas and Mahabharata will be included in the school curriculum.
“They are our path and guide. This context will be helpful in moral education and spiritual education,” the CM said at aSaraswati Vidya Pratishthan event in Bhopal to mark thebirth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
“The best manifestation of knowledge is in one’s mother tongue. The MP government will make every effort to encourage education in the mother tongue by ending the supremacy of English,” he added. The CM reminded the gathering that the state government has already started medical and engineering studies in Hindi. In September this year, the MP government included Ramcharitmanas as an optional for undergraduate students in philosophy.
In March this year, the Gujarat government announced that Bhagavad Gita would be part of the school syllabus from classes 6-12. Karnataka and Haryana, too, were said to be considering it and Union minister Pralhad Joshi had recommended that all states should “consider introducing Gita in schools”.
