NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday said there is an adequate supply of fertilisers and there is no shortage in any part of the country. Data accessed by TOI also reveals that not just have companies met the requirement of urea and other fertilisers during the current rabi crop sowing season but have also built sufficient stocks to meet future demand.
Union fertiliser secretary Arun Singhal said the total requirement of urea during thecurrent sowing season (October 2022 to March 2023) is around 180 lakh tonnes. “We started the season with an opening stock of 55 lakh tonnes. So far 61 lakh tonnes of urea has been sold. The total supply till Tuesday was 99 lakh tonnes. So there is no shortage anywhere,” he added.
On the reported shortage of fertiliser in some parts of India, Singhal said annually around 650 lakh tonnes of fertiliser is transported from ports and plants to different parts of the country.
