RANCHI: Cutting across party lines, several MLAs in Jharkhand assembly on Friday raised the demand for a pay hike, claiming that their salary revision was pending since 2016.
BJP MLA Bhanu Pratap Sahi intervened in a discussion on the demand for grants for the school education and literacy department and raised the issue.
“I request for a hike in the pay of legislators, ministers, speaker and the chief minister, pending since 2016. All members of the House have given their consent on the issue. I seek an assurance from the CM,” he said.
Taking the issue forward, JMM legislator Samir Mohanty said the issue should be considered seriously.
Another legislator Pradip Yadav, who joined the Congress after winning the 2019 assembly polls on a JVM-P ticket, said, “There should be a hike in view of the inflation.”
Responding to the MLAs’ demand, chief minister Hemant Soren said, “The government will take a reasonable and fair decision on the matter. A positive step will be initiated following a discussion with the speaker.”
Later, the demand for grants for the school education and literacy department was passed with voice vote.
