NEW DELHI: Ravichandran Ashwin continued to smash records as the Indian spinner went past legendary Kapil Dev to become the third-highest wicket-taker for India across formats.
Ashwin achieved the milestone during the second day of the third Test against Australia at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Thursday. Ashwin surpassed Kapil’s 687 wickets record with the dismissal of Alex Carey, who was trapped in front.

Anil Kumble sits atop the list with 953 wickets followed by Harbhajan Singh (707).
After drawing a blank on the first day, Ashwin surprisingly had to wait for almost an hour to get his first over of the day and when he did, the wily operator made the ball talk.

He gave India a first breakthrough of the day by breaking a tough stand between Peter Handscomb and Cameron Green. Handscomb was caught at short leg by Shreyas Iyer. He then dismissed Carey and Nathan Lyon to end with figures of three for 44 in 20.3 overs.
Ashwin and Umesh Yadav (3/12) scripted India’s fightback after a forgettable opening day when the hosts were all out for 109.
