Kupwara: Four terrorists killed during infiltration bid along LoC near Kupwara | India News

SRINAGAR: Four terrorists were shot dead while trying to infiltrate Indian territory along the Line of Control (LoC) at Kala Jungle area in Machhal sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday. This was the fifth infiltration bid in Kupwara this year and came around a week after another major infiltration bid was thwarted by a joint team of security forces in the district at Jumgund Keran near the LoC in which five terrorists were killed.
“In a joint operation, Army and Police have killed four terrorists in Kala Jungle of Machhal sector in Kupwara who were trying to infiltrate to our side from PoK,” tweeted Kashmir Zone Police on Friday.
Indian Army’s Chinar Corps said in a tweet: “…war-like stores have been recovered. Ops in progress.”
Friday’s infiltration bid was preceded by the June 16 Jumgund Keran encounter. Before that, security forces foiled an infiltration bid and killed two terrorists along the LoC in Kupwara on May 3, 2023. On March 24, security forces thwarted an infiltration bid and shot dead a terrorist near the LoC in Tangdhar sector. Another infiltrator was gunned down in Tangdhar on February 16.
The infiltration graph since the 2021 February pact between the armies of India and Pakistan was in decline compared with the figures of previous years including the instances of ceasefire violations, officials said.
This was also the fourth gunfight in the district in recent days. Earlier, two terrorists were shot dead in a joint operation by Army and J&K Police at Dobanar in Machhal sector.
