NEW DELHI: In a guarded reaction to the China-brokered Saudi-Iran peace deal, India said Thursday it had abiding interests in West Asia and that it had always advocated dialogue for resolving differences.
Seven years after they severed ties, Iran and Saudi Arabia last week announced restoration of full-fledged diplomatic ties, following an agreement reached with Chinese assistance. “We have seen the reports in this regard. India has good relations with various countries in West Asia. We have deep abiding interests in that region,” MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said. “India has always advocated dialogue and diplomacy as a way to resolve differences,” Bagchi said.
Asked about the next round of China-India military talks, he said there was a commitment by both sides at the last diplomatic dialogue to hold the Corps Commander level talks at an early date.
