LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav was admitted to the “critical care unit” (CCU) at Medanta Hospital on Monday after the veteran politician’s health parameters did not show desired results. He was being treated by a “comprehensive team of specialists”, hospital sources said on Monday.
The announcement from the hospital comes a day after Mulayam was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) and put on ventilator support following a dip in the oxygen level and the rise in blood pressure accompanied by kidney complications. The 82-year-old patriarch has been undergoing treatment for kidney infection since August 22. Before that he was admitted to the Medanta in July as well.
In Lucknow, Samajwadi Party issued an appeal to party workers asking them not to gather at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon where Mulayam is admitted. The party assured workers that they would get regular updates on his health condition. “Netaji (Mulayam) was admitted to the CCU and his condition is stable,” the message from SP headquarters in Lucknow said.
On Monday, Union minister SPS Baghel went to the hospital to enquire about the health of the SP patriarch. Baghel, who is a former cop, was the personal security officer of Mulayam when he was the CM. Later, he joined SP and then BSP before finally entering the saffron camp in 2014. Calling Mulayam his ‘political guru’, Baghel wished to see him back in active politics soon.
Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao and his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar also spoke to Akhilesh Yadav to enquire about Mulayam’s health. The entire Yadav family has been camping in Gurgaon since Sunday, when his condition deteriorated. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UP CM Yogi Adityanath and defence minister Rajnath Singh have spoken to Akhilesh Yadav to enquire about Mulayam’s health on Sunday. Reports said PM Modi assured all possible help during his telephonic conversation with Akhilesh. Congress leaders Priynaka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have also wished Mulayam a speedy recovery.
SP workers, meanwhile, organised special prayers in many temples across the state on Monday for the long life of the party founder. In Lucknow, party workers prayed at Hanuman temple at Vikramaditya Marg near Yadav’s residence. In Varanasi, they offered prayers at various temples including Hanuman temple in Gilat Bazar and Bada Ganesh Mandir in Lohatia, a party leader said.
SP spokesperson Manoj Rai said everyone in the party needed the blessing of ‘netaji’ and they held special prayers in different temples including performing havan at Assi Ghat in Varanasi.
