Naveen Patnaik’s special secretary D S Kutey suspended, called to Delhi | India News

BHUBANESWAR: Ahead of the last phase election in Odisha on June 1, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday suspended D S Kutey, special secretary to chief minister Naveen Patnaik, for “unduly interfering in conduct of election.” The ECI asked another IPS officer, Ashish Singh, inspector general (CM security), who is on medical leave to present himself before a medical board by Thursday.
An IPS officer of the 1997 batch, Kutey was considered among the most powerful bureaucrats in the chief minister’s office. The ECI has fixed his headquarter as New Delhi at the Office of Resident Commissioner, Odisha. The ECI asked the chief secretary of Odisha to issue charge sheet to Kutey by Thursday. The chief electoral officer (CEO) Odisha will hand over the draft charge sheet to the chief secretary.

In case of Singh, who is on leave since May 4, an ECI letter addressed to the CEO Odisha said he has to present himself before a special medical board to be formed by director AIIMS Bhubaneswar for detailed medical examinations by Thursday. On ECI recommendation, the govt had earlier transferred Singh from his posting as IG Central range in April. Six IPS and two IAS officers were transferred in April on ECI recommendations.
The ECI also asked for expeditious investigation in a case registered against BJP Khurda MLA candidate Prasanta Jagadev for allegedly damaging EVM in a polling booth on May 25. The commission asked a report on its directions by Friday.
