Opposition meet ended with a whimper, yielded nothing: UP deputy CM | India News

LUCKNOW: UP deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya on Friday termed the joint opposition meet in Patna as an exercise that ended with a “whimper” and yielded “absolutely nothing”.
“Khoda pahad nikli chuhiya…,” he taunted, while speaking to reporters at the state BJP office, hours after heads of 17 opposition political parties met in the Bihar state capital to put up a united front in an apparent aim to thwart BJP from returning to power in 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Maurya reiterated that the opposition would not be able to dent the BJP led NDA which “will win not less than 400 Lok Sabha seats” in the next national general elections.
He remarked that none of the opposition leaders seem to have put aside their Prime Ministerial ambition. “Dil mile na mile haath milate chaliye … apna apna bhrashtachar aur parivar chhipate chaliye,” he said, a jibe which was similar to what BSP chief Mayawati said two days ago.
In a covert swipe at the Congress, Samajwadi Party, RJD-JD (U) and PDP, Maurya said that the parties which conspired to stop construction of Ram Temple, who stopped Rath Yatra in Bihar, who fired bullets at Kar Sewaks and those who were against abolishment of article 370 from Kashmir came together at the meet. “Their political business and their parivarvaad is under threat,” he chided.
He said that the ‘agenda’ of the opposition seemed to be fixed – to stop PM Modi from coming to power. “They have joined hands out of fear of Modi,” he said, equating the opposition parties with `Saanp’ (snake) and `newla’ (mongoose) who cannot stay together. “This emerged in 2019 when SP and BSP parted ways after an alliance,” he said.
Maurya said that while SP attended the meeting, the absence of BSP and RLD from the event speaks clearly of the opposition unity. He further slammed the opposition parties for turning into “puppets” of Congress against which they once stood and thrived. “The soul of Hindu Hriday Samrat bala Saheb Thackrey must be in pain to see his son Uddhav Thackrey sitting with the Congress and other opposition leaders,” he said.
The deputy CM claimed that the Narendra Modi government in the last nine years of rule confiscated and seized properties worth Rs 1 lakh crores which were acquired through corrupt practices in the previous regimes. “The regional outfits now want to support Congress so that no inquiry is initiated against them,” he said.
