Poonch: J&K: Infiltration bid foiled in Poonch, soldier hurt in gunfight | India News

JAMMU: An Army soldier was injured in a gunfight between security forces and terrorists trying to infiltrate Indian territory along the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Saturday. This was the third infiltration bid thwarted by alert troops manning the LoC in Poonch within a month and came a day after four terrorists were shot dead during a similar infiltration attempt along the LoC at Kala Jungle area in Machhal sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday.
“The gunfight broke out in the forward area of Ranger Nallah in Gulpur sub-sector of Krishna Ghati late Friday when troops noticed a group of two-three armed terrorists trying to infiltrate into own (Indian) side,” said an official source, adding that a soldier was injured in the fire exchange while the terrorists managed to slip into the nearby dense forest.
“Op Resham… Int based Counter Infiltration Ops by #IndianArmy & JKP… 3 infiltrators running towards LC engaged by own troops & seen falling down near LC. (sic)” Indian Army’s White Knight Corps tweeted on Saturday.
“The injured soldier was evacuated to a nearby health facility, from where he was referred to the Command Hospital, Udhampur,” said an official source. Reinforcements were rushed to the area and a massive cordon-and-search operation was underway to hunt down the holed-up terrorists despite heavy rain in the area, sources added.
Notably, the infiltration bid in Kupwara’s Kala Jungle area on June 23 (Friday) was preceded by a major infiltration attempt along the LoC on June 16 in Kupwara’s Jumgund Keran area, wherein five terrorists were killed. On June 15, another infiltration attempt was thwarted along the LoC in Poonch’s Krishna Ghati sector and war-like stores recovered.
On May 31, a joint team of security forces apprehended three terrorists along the LoC in Poonch while they were trying to cross the border fence taking advantage of inclement weather and heavy rain. A huge cache of arms, ammunition, and narcotics was seized from them. Before that, security forces foiled an infiltration bid and killed two terrorists along the LoC in Kupwara on May 3, 2023.
On March 24, security forces thwarted an infiltration bid and shot dead a terrorist near the LoC in the district’s Tangdhar sector. Another terrorist was gunned down in Tangdhar during a similar infiltration attempt on February 16.
