NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi lauded the contributions of those conferred the Bharat Ratna, paying rich tributes to former PMs P V Narasimha Rao and Chaudhary Charan Singh. While Modi said that every Indian cherishes what Rao has done for the nation, for Singh he said that it’s a recognition of his contributions to India’s development, particularly in agriculture and rural development.Home minister Amit Shah on the occasion said conferment of India’s highest civilian award on former PMs, agriculture scientist M S Swaminathan and former Bihar CM Karpoori Thakur showed “Modi government’s commitment towards farmers, downtrodden and backward people.”
Lauding the contributions of former PM Rao, Modi said: “Every Indian holds in high regard the contributions of P V Narasimha Rao Garu to our nation and takes pride in his Bharat Ratna recognition. He tirelessly worked to propel our country forward in progress and modernisation. He was also esteemed as a scholar and thinker. His legacy will endure.”
He hailed Singh’s Bharat Ratna as a testament to his significant role in India’s development, especially in agriculture and rural progress. “This recognition will serve as a source of inspiration for future generations to embrace the values of diligence, commitment, and public service that he embodied,” Modi remarked.
PM also noted that the prestigious civilian award bestowed upon Thakur stands as a fitting homage to a leader who devoted his life to the causes of social justice and equality. Recognised as a champion of the underprivileged, Modi emphasised, “His Bharat Ratna underscores the principles of inclusivity and empathy that are fundamental to our nation’s ethos.”
The PM hailed MS Swaminathan as a revered figure in the realm of agriculture, widely admired for his groundbreaking contributions and research in genetics and agricultural science.
