SC stays Allahabad HC’s order quashing UP board of Madrasa education act | India News

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday stayed Allahabad high court‘s order quashing UP Board of Madrasa Education Act and stopped relocation of 17 lakh students, 10,000 teachers to government schools.
HC had termed Madrasas violative of country’s secular education system. Thus, 16,000 Madrasas would now resume their activities.
A bench of CJI D Y Chandrachud said though state has a legitimate interest in ensuring quality education for students to enable them earn a degree for dignified pursuit of profession, HC was prima facie wrong in striking down a legisaltion which was only regulatory in nature.
