NEW DELHI: Accusing the MK Stalin government in Tamil Nadu of attempting to curtail the freedom of expression, BJP on Saturday said the arrest of its state secretary SG Suryah in connection with his recent tweet on Madurai CPM MP Su Venkatesan forcing a worker to do manual scavenging, is condemnable. “This arrest is a clear misuse of government machinery by M K Stalin to curtail freedom of expression. Isn’t this vendetta politics?” said BJP spokesperson Tom Vadakkan.
Police booked the BJP state secretary under various sections of the IPC and IT Act. When Suryah was being produced before court on Saturday, BJP cadres staged a road roko protest. “This arrest under misusing government machinery to curtail freedom of expression is a sign of a democratically elected leader turning into a truly undemocratic and autocratic leader,” said Vadakkan.
