NEW DELHI: The government on Friday announced that seven PM MITRA or Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel Parks will be set up in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh as part of a “mega push” for the sector, a heavyweight in India’s employment and export calculations.
While disclosing the location of the facilities, PM Narendra Modi said, “The mega textile parks will boost the textiles sector in line with 5F (Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign) vision” and help create lakhs of jobs. The parks are meant to create an integrated textiles value chain — from spinning, weaving, processing and printing — at a single location. The government believes that such facilities will create the basis for mass production of textiles goods. “The PM MITRA mega textile parks will provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for the textiles sector, attract investment of crores and create lakhs of jobs. It will be a great example of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make For the World’,” Modi tweeted.
