SRINAGAR: Farooq Abdullah, who had on Friday announced his decision to step down as National Conference chief, reiterated on Saturday that he won’t contest the party president’s election slated for December 5, but would fight the assembly polls.
Reacting to the buzz in the political circles that he had decided to retire from active politics and would not contest either party or state polls, Farooq told reporters in Jammu: “J&K is a place of rumours and that’s nothing new. I will contest assembly polls for sure whenever they are held.”
On the NC polls, he said “delegates will decide who will be the next party president”.
Welcoming prominent social activist Kuldeep Sharma and several others into the party fold, Farooq said the NC was fully geared up to face the elections. The party wanted a peaceful J&K and better relations with the Centre, he added.
