Wimbledon 2024: Aamir Khan was a ‘very good player’ but had to quit tennis because…

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan chose the Wimbledon location, where he is presently catching up on the action, to reveal his tennis playing childhood days. However, he reveals that his father served an ace by asking him to shelve his tennis dreams.

Aamir was a “very good player in the junior level” and was the Maharashtra State Champion.

The Bollywood actor spoke to former tennis player and commentator Vijay Amritraj. In a chat with Star Sports India, Aamir Khan talked about his tennis days and explained why he left the sport.

Although the Ghajini star said he really enjoyed the game, he said he was doubtful of making it to any significant level. He joked, saying that it was good for tennis that he decided not to continue any further.

“I don’t think I could have ever made it to any significant level, but I really enjoyed the game, so I had a lot of fun while playing it. And then one fine day, my dad decided that I should stop playing, so I stopped,” he said.

Aamir Khan added, “Well, I think I am very happy where I am, so yeah, and good for tennis that I didn’t continue,” Aamir Khan told Amritraj, reported Hindustan Times.

Aamir Khan had previously come to watch the Men’s Wimbledon final in 2023. He was accompanied by his children Junaid, Ira Khan and Azad. This year marks Aamir’s second visit to Wimbledon. He further added that the excitement of watching a match live was a different experience altogether when compared to seeing it on screens.

“I came with my kids, and it was a wonderful experience, really wonderful experience, and as I was saying earlier, up until now, I’ve watched it on television through Star Sports. And but when you watch it live, you realise just how fast the game is and how amazing the players are, and the whole atmosphere, the excitement of watching it live is something else,” Aamir Khan said in the chat.

‘I think I would bet on Alcaraz’: Aamir Khan

Speaking about Carlos Alcaraz, Aamir Khan mentioned that he would bet on Alcaraz to win the title, as he believes it is difficult to close a point with the Spaniard. Alcaraz often reaches the most impossible shot, according to Khan.

“Of course, he’s just started out, but I think he has the potential to be one of the all-time greats if he continues in this way. I think I would bet on Alcaraz. Djokovic is also there in the game. But I think it’s really difficult to close the point with Alcaraz. You know, he just doesn’t let you close the point. Really makes you work hard to get the point,” said the Bollywood actor.

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz will battle it out with Daniil Medvedev at the semifinals of Wimbledon 2024 on Friday, July 12.
