China Open 2026: Prannoy crashes out in opening round, Sihag succumbs after tough fight

H. S. Prannoy crashed out of the opening round of the China Open 2026 in Changzhou on Tuesday after being outplayed by Leong Jun Hao of Malaysia.

The Indian shuttler lost 21-10, 21-14 to the World No. 27 to prolong his middling start to 2026, where he is yet to progress beyond the second round at any tournament.

With the victory, Jun Hao levelled the head-to-head record between the two to two apiece.

In the women’s singles, Devika Sihag went down 21-19, 19-21, 21-13 against Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand.

Despite roaring back to take the second game in a tight encounter against the World No. 10, Sihag eventually ran out of steam to concede the third quite early.

P. V. Sindhu, who will take on compatriot Unnati Hooda, and Lakshya Sen will get their singles campaign underway on Wednesday. Ayush Shetty will take on Alwi Farhan in the singles’ opening round.

Men’s doubles pair MR Arjun and Hariharan Amsakarunan, Mixed doubles pairs Rohan Kapoor-Ruthvika Shivani Gadde and Tanisha Crasto-Dhruv Kapila will also be in action.
