A free-kick causes chaos inside the area and eventually drops to Kamara from close range, but his effort is blocked by a crowd of players.

McGinn delivers a beautiful cross from the right, lifting the ball perfectly into the box for Madjo. The youngster gets his head to it but cannot keep his effort on target infront of goal. 

Buendia pounces on a loose pass from Doue, but the ball is poked away before he can get his shot off. It falls kindly to Madjo, who does not hesitate to shoot, but his effort is blocked behind for a corner.

Madjo receives the ball, but Marquinhos reads his first touch well and takes it away from the 17-year-old.

Hemmings takes it forward. He breaks past his marker, but one touch too many sends the ball away from goal. He keeps his ground but is eventually crowded out. 

Madjo collects the ball, and lets one fly and it is wide off target once again. 

The long throw is launched into the box, where Madjo brings it down on his chest and lays it into the path of Hemmings. The teenager holds off Pacho once again, but his effort is blocked.

17-yr-old Madjo rises well to meet a cross from Villa skipper McGinn, but sends his header wide of the target. A big opportunity goes begging for Villa to draw level.

Nuno Mendes threads a superb low ball across the box from the left, but all three PSG players in the middle fail to get a touch. Luis Enrique is left animated on the touchline, wondering how no one converted it.

Vitinha works the free-kick short to Desire Doue instead of delivering into the box. PSG move it across to the left, where Kvaratskhelia goes down under pressure, but referee Omar Artan waves play on.

The PSG winger cuts inside and fires without hesitation, sending a fierce effort beyond Bizot and into the net. A superb finish to put Paris in front.

Hakimi takes a risk inside his own box, chesting down a dangerous ball under pressure from Villa players before managing to clear his lines.

Marquinhos steps forward looking to dictate play from midfield, but Villa stay compact and deny PSG any room, forcing the ball all the way back to Safonov.

The Villa midfielder is afforded space outside the box and takes a shot; it is low and quick, but his effort flashes narrowly wide. Safonov looked a little uneasy, diving to his right as it went past.

Vitinha with an ambitious effort from outside the box, but it doesn’t trouble the Villa backline or its goalkeeper.

Hakimi is released into space and drives into the box, but Maatsen recovers well to force the PSG full-back away from goal.

Villa work the ball neatly through midfield, but Kamara’s attempted pass towards Hemmings is cut out before it can reach the forward.

Villa keep up the pressure as Maatsen drives down the left, but his cross is blocked behind for a corner. Buendia sends in the resulting set piece, but it sails over Torres before PSG clear the danger.

McGinn swings an inviting ball into the area looking for 17-year-old Madjo, but Pacho gets across and heads it to safety.

Hemmings uses his body well to shield the ball and draws a foul, earning Aston Villa a free-kick inside the PSG half.

Salzburg was treated to a partial solar eclipse in the build-up to tonight’s final. The eclipse peaked at around 8:15pm local time, just 45 minutes before kick-off, with nearly 89 per cent of the Sun obscured over the Austrian city.

Artan had originally been selected as a match official for the 2026 World Cup but was unable to participate after being denied entry to the United States. UEFA subsequently appointed him for tonight’s Super Cup following discussions with CAF.

The teams are in. PSG’s stars are ready, Villa have placed their faith in an intriguing mix of experience and youth, and the UEFA Super Cup is almost upon us.

If the scores are level after 90 minutes, there will be no extra time in the UEFA Super Cup. The match will go straight to a penalty shootout to decide the winner.

Both PSG and Aston Villa have won the UEFA Super Cup once. PSG lifted it in 2025, while Villa’s sole triumph came against Barcelona in the 1982 edition.

Lucas Digne completed a permanent move from Aston Villa to PSG only three days ago and is in the Paris squad tonight. The French left-back spent four-and-a-half seasons with Villa, making 182 competitive appearances.

Hakimi and Nuno Mendes for PSG; Cash and Maatsen for Villa. Both teams possess adventurous full-backs, meaning the spaces they leave behind could become just as important as what they offer going forward.

For all the star quality in PSG’s XI, one of the night’s biggest storylines could be Villa’s faith in Madjo and Hemmings. A European final is quite a stage on which to be handed responsibility.

The European Cup/Champions League holders have won 30 of the 50 UEFA Super Cups played so far. 

Alejandro Garnacho travelled with the Aston Villa squad to Salzburg but has not made the match-day team for the Super Cup final. The winger suffered a facial injury during Villa’s 3-1 pre-season win over BG Pathum United.

PSG have gone with the established attacking quality of Kvaratskhelia, Doue and Akliouche. Villa, meanwhile, have Madjo and Hemmings involved alongside the vastly more experienced Buendia and McGinn.

Joao Gomes and Boubacar Kamara provide Villa with a strong central base, while John McGinn and Emiliano Buendia add experience forward.

Marco Bizot starts in goal for Aston Villa, behind a four-man defence of Matty Cash, Victor Lindelof, Pau Torres and Ian Maatsen.

Joao Neves, Vitinha and Warren Emery make up a technically gifted three-man midfield. PSG will look to that trio to dictate the tempo and dominate the possession.

Matvey Safonov gets the gloves for Paris Saint-Germain in the Super Cup final, with Luis Enrique opting for the Russian goalkeeper in Salzburg.
