Three World Cup winners are part of an international investment group that has taken control of Portuguese top-flight side Estrela da Amadora.
Thomas Muller, Mats Hummels and Lucas Hernandez, along with former Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer, are among the investors in the consortium, which has purchased a 90 per cent stake in the club.
The group reportedly paid 40 million euros to former owner and president Paulo Lopo. Lopo had acquired Estrela for 72,000 euros in 2020.
Estrela confirmed the takeover on Tuesday. The consortium is headed by ADvantage and LEAD, with backing from the KI Group.
Muller and Hummels were key members of Germany’s 2014 World Cup-winning squad, while Hernandez was part of the France team that lifted the trophy in 2018.

Sommer now plays for Club Brugge after leaving Serie A champion Inter Milan at the end of last season.
Muller, currently with Vancouver Whitecaps, was also a teammate of Hummels, Hernandez and Sommer at different points during his long spell with Bayern Munich.
Johannes Mosmang will succeed Lopo as Estrela president. The 35-year-old spent the previous decade at Bayern Munich, where he worked in the club’s player-management department.
The takeover is another major development in Estrela’s recent history. The club was declared insolvent in 2011 before eventually working its way back to Portugal’s top division.
