Imran Tahir, the Guyana Amazon Warriors captain, on his team’s success at CPL 2026 so far
Amazon Warriors’ captain Imran Tahir hailed Nabi’s all-round efforts and said that the team would miss him. “He’s been an absolute legend,” Tahir said of Nabi after the win against Patriots. “He’s one of the best offspinners in world cricket at the moment and that’s the reason we got him. He can bat and is a really good slip fielder. He’s also been good with us, sharing his knowledge and the way he’s been bowling has been brilliant. From GSL till now, his lengths are so good and he never missed anything in any game. We’re really going to miss him.”
Gurbaz had also been important to Amazon Warriors’ strong run, scoring 93 runs in his two innings this season, scoring 54 in 35 balls against Jamaica Kingsmen and 39 in 25 balls against Patriots.
Mehidy is not part of Bangladesh’s T20I squad for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan and will be available to Amazon Warriors for the rest of the CPL season. Mehidy had a taste of the CPL in 2017, when he was picked by Trinbago Knight Riders as a replacement player, but he is yet to play a game in the league.
Haris is a more familiar face at Amazon Warriors, having turned out for them in the GSL in July-August this year.
Amazon Warriors also have the option of bringing Glenn Phillips back to the XI in place of Gurbaz and have Shai Hope keep wicket. Local Guyana batter Matthew Nandu is also in the squad as a reserve opener, if Amazon Warriors prefer a left-hand batter at the top.
Though Amazon Warriors have already qualified for the playoffs, their captain Tahir has warned them against complacency.
“Just really proud of the boys, we’ve been playing really good cricket in all the departments,” he said. “Maybe now and then we lose a bit of grip but anyone can come and be a hero. That’s been the story so far in our group. Like I said before, we enjoy each other’s success.
“When we go and do our work, we do it sincerely; we’re representing this beautiful franchise. We’ve been looked after really well and fans come and support us from all over the world. We’re nicely sitting on top [of the table], but we’re not taking things for granted.”
