Netherlands chose to bat vs Bangladesh
Netherlands captain Babette de Leede called it right on their T20 World Cup debut and chose to bat in sunny conditions in Birmingham. She said they wanted to put up a big total on a “flat wicket” with a “fast” outfield and try and defend it.
Both Netherlands and Bangladesh made it to this tournament through the qualifiers in Nepal earlier this year. De Leede said they would field the same XI that helped them finish strong in that tournament.
Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana said she wanted to bat first too but trusted her bowling attack to restrict Netherlands.
In the recent tri-series in Scotland, Netherlands beat Bangladesh by eight runs before Bangladesh avenged the loss with a 13-run win over Netherlands. Their overall head-to-head stands at 4-1 in favour of Bangladesh.
