- Sony is putting together a third ‘Jump Street’ movie.
- Stars Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Ice Cube are all in talks to return.
- Rodney Rothman co-wrote the script and will direct.
Way back in 2012, Phil Lord and Chris Miller –– then best known for directing animated comedy ‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs’ –– made the leap to live-action with the wildly praised ‘21 Jump Street,’ which re-imagined the Johnny Depp-starring 1980s TV series in comic fashion, starring Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube.
A sequel, ‘22 Jump Street,’ followed in 2014 to even more success. And despite efforts to develop a third (more on that lower down the page), nothing has come of it, until now, as Variety reports that studio bosses Sony are locking down what will be known as ‘24 Jump Street.’

“The only thing getting blown tonight is their cover.”
Release Date: Mar 16, 2012
Run Time: 1 hr 49 min
Budget: $42,000,000
With Lord and Miller stepping back to produce this time, regular collaborator Rodney Rothman (‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’), who co-wrote the sequel, will direct this time, and is back on script duty, working alongside Hill and Meghan Malloy (‘Vivo’).

What’s the story of ‘24 Jump Street’?

‘21 Jump Street’ starred Hill and Tatum as Schmidt and Jenko, a couple of underachieving cops who go undercover at a local high school to take down a drug ring. Cube played their superior, Captain Dickson.
The sequel, ‘22 Jump Street,’ saw Hill and Tatum repeat their undercover schtick in college. The coda for that movie featured a raft of potential sequels starting with ‘23 Jump Street’ –– medical school and more –– but there are no official details on what the new movie could feature, and the new title keeps the gag going.
Hasn’t there been talk of a third ‘Jump Street’ movie before?

You are right! A third outing has been in development at Sony for more than a decade, with at least one plan to mount a crossover with the studio’s ‘Men in Black’ franchise. Though Tatum described one potential ‘23 Jump Street’ script as among the best he’s read, there’s no word on whether the current writers are drawing from it.
