Anahat Singh was knocked out of the London Squash Classic, a PSA Gold level event, on Friday after a straight-games loss to Malaysian World No. 5 Sivasangari Subramaniam in the quarterfinals.
Former champion Sivasangari, seeded third, dominated the Indian teenager from the beginning and recorded a comfortable 2-0 (11-4, 11-4) win in 17 minutes to set up a final-four clash against second-seeded Egyptian and reigning World Champion Amina Orfi.
The 18-year-old Anahat, ranked 20th in the world, had entered the quarterfinals after outlasting eighth seed Nele Gilis of Belgium in a three-game thriller.
““I’m happy with how I played today, Anahat is a very talented player. She’s beaten some of the top players and challenged the majority of them,” the 27-year-old Sivasangari told SquashTV.
“I put extra intensity in my hitting towards the back corners. Anahat is very dangerous when she has time, so I tried to take that away from her. Obviously, there are a lot of nerves coming into these matches with the best of three format, so I had to get my confidence and happy with how I dealt with things today.
The defeat for Anahat comes a few weeks before the Asian Games where Sivasangari, the top-ranked Asian player, will be her biggest rival. The gold medallist at the continental event will qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Games where the sport will make its Olympic debut.
