Asian Games 2026 - Sri Lanka's Nilakshika Silva ruled out with finger injury

Batters Vishmi Gunaratne and Nilakshika Silva are not part of this side, though. Silva, especially, has been in good form this year but fractured a finger during the Asia Cup. Meanwhile, Gunaratne – aged 21, and who has been playing for Sri Lanka since her teens – has endured a dip in run-scoring output.
Also omitted is spin-bowling allrounder Dewmi Vihanga, who was in the squad for the recent Asia Cup but was withdrawn due to a knee injury, and was replaced by Nimasha Meepage, who continues to have a place in the squad.

Each of the recalled players – Sanjeewani, Karunaratne, and Sewwandi – have played for Sri Lanka since June. In fact, this squad for the Asian Games is very close to being a full-strength side. Chamari Athapaththu is still the captain, with Harshitha Samarawickrama, Kavisha Dilhari and Sugandika Kumari all part of the 15-member outfit.

Sri Lanka are one of eight sides competing in the event, with India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Thailand, China, Malaysia and Japan the other sides. Their first match, in what is essentially a knockout tournament, is against Malaysia on Friday.
