NEW DELHI: Alok Kumar Mittal, a 1993 batch IPS officer of Haryana cadre, was on Monday named as director general of the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPRD). He is presently serving in the cadre as DG, Prisons.Other appointments announced in the Central police organisations include that of Amit Garg, IPS (Andhra Pradesh: 1993), as director, National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). He shall move from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), where he is serving as director. Sujeet Pandey, IPS (UP: 1994) will replace him in SVPNPA. Mittal, who will head BPRD till June 2029 or till his next posting, has in the past served in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and led investigations into key terror cases. He also held several posts in Haryana police, as ADG, CID; DG, Prisons; and managing director, Haryana Police Housing Corporation. He joins BPRD at a time when it is overseeing smooth implementation of the three criminal laws across all the states and Union territories. Garg, who will replace incumbent Alok Ranjan, will serve as NCRB chief till his retirement on Oct 31, 2027 or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Pandey’s term in SVPNPA will also continue till his superannuation on July 31, 2028.
