Long-distance runner Gulveer Singh scripted history for the second time at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after he clinched the bronze medal in the men’s 5000m final on Saturday.

In doing so, he became the first Indian, man or woman, to medal in this event in the history of the Games. Moreover, he also became the first Indian athlete in track and field to win multiple medals at a single edition.

Gulveer finished third with a timing of 13:24.95, finishing ahead of Kenya’s Cornelius Kemboi by four-hundredths of a second. Kenya’s Mathew Kipsang won gold with 13:23.61, while Australia’s Ky Robinson took silver with 13:24.70.

Earlier this week, Gulveer had become the first Indian man to medal in the 10,000m event after he clinched silver with a timing of 27:49.78.
