India enjoyed a fruitful day on Day 5 as Sharmila Dankar won India’s first gold medal in para athletics in the shot put F57 event.
Sharmila finished first in the final with a best throw of 9.81m, while Shilpa K Shyla finished third in the same event. In athletics, Sarvesh Khushare clinched the silver medal in the men’s high jump event
India also continued its impressive showing in the weightlifting event, as Gyaneshwari Yadav (women’s 53 kg) and Valluri Ajaya Babu (men’s 79 kg) won silver medals.
India is currently eighth in the table with ten medals, including two gold, five silver, and three bronze medals.
