India A to play three red-ball matches in New Zealand before Test series

The ‘A’ games will run in parallel with the white-ball leg of India’s tour of New Zealand, which features five T20Is and five ODIs starting October 22 and running till November 15.

The two Tests will be played from November 19 to 23 (Wellington) and November 27 to December 1 (Christchurch). The first ‘A’ match will be played from October 24 to 27 (Lincoln), the second from October 31 to November 3 (Christchurch), and the third from November 7 to 10 (Lincoln).

The ‘A’ series will also overlap with the domestic season for both countries.

For Indian players, the clash will be with the Ranji Trophy, which starts on October 11, which means the players who make the trip to New Zealand wouldn’t be available for their domestic sides.

For New Zealand players, the Ford Trophy (the one-day tournament) runs from October 28 to November 12 before breaking for the first-class Plunket Shield from November 19.

Both sides will see the ‘A’ series as crucial preparation for the Test series, which is important from the point of view of the WTC standings.

New Zealand, in third place, are much better placed than India and will tour Australia in December-January. They also have series against Sri Lanka (at home) and against Pakistan (away) in this cycle.

India are placed fifth and will also face current table-toppers Australia, but at home, for five Tests in January-February to complete their assignments in this WTC cycle.
